Representative of an Overseas Business Visa UK Overview

The Representative of an Overseas Business Visa (formerly Sole Representative Visa) allows employees of overseas newspapers, news agencies, or broadcasting organisations to come to the UK on a long-term assignment. It also applies to existing sole representatives already in the UK before the route changed in 2022. Holders can work full-time for their overseas employer, bring dependants, extend their visa, and apply for settlement after five years.

Key Points:

For overseas media employees on long-term UK assignments

Initial visa: 3 years → extend for 2 years → ILR after 5 years

Dependants allowed; same expiry date as main visa

Cannot work for other employers or claim public funds

Even though the route closed for new business reps, media employees like journalists and broadcasters can still apply under this category.
