Eligible Jobs & When Your Job Isn’t Listed

Most roles need to be on the eligible occupations list (use your 4-digit occupation code). If not listed, you may still qualify with the right qualifications/experience. Certain services (e.g., management consulting, chefs de cuisine, fashion/modelling) have specific requirements.

    Key Points:

Check your occupation code against the eligible list

If not listed: typically bachelor’s/tech qualification +

3 years relevant experience (employees) or 6 years (self-employed)

Some services have role-specific thresholds (e.g., consulting = degree)

    Application Process

Apply online, upload documents, prove identity (app or VAC biometrics), and await a decision. Applications can be made up to 3 months before the CoS start date.

    Key Points:

Steps: CoS → online form → documents → biometrics → decision

Prove ID via UK Immigration: ID Check app or VAC

Separate processes to extend, switch, or update if job changes

    Costs & Processing Times

You’ll pay a visa fee plus the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS); you must also meet the maintenance funds rule unless exempt/sponsor-certified.

    Key Points:

IHS: £1,035 per year of leave

Maintenance: £1,270 for 28 days (unless exempt/sponsor certifies)
